Reconnect's FAME Family and Caregiver Support Services offers supports to people who are acting as a caregiver for someone who is experiencing a mental health concern and for those who are caring for someone who is aging. Services include peer support groups, one-on-one counselling, and specialized programming for children and youth. Please see below to learn more about an individual service or program.

One-on-One Support: Reconnect offers free, confidential one-on-one supportive counselling for individuals who are caring for someone experiencing mental health challenges across the GTA. Counselling includes education, self-care, solution-focused assistance, and referrals to other community resources. Counselling is offered either in person, over the phone, or virtually.

Peer Support Groups: Reconnect offers free monthly peer support groups across the GTA. These groups are for individuals acting as a caregiver for someone experiencing a mental health concern. Support groups are an excellent way for caregivers to practice self-care, learn from others with similar experiences, and build a supportive community. Groups are facilitated in a drop-in format by Reconnect's Family Support Workers. See the Service Locations below for location information. All peer support groups are being conducted virtually during the pandemic.

FAMEkids and FAMEyouth: Reconnect FAMEkids and FAMEyouth are free programs for children (aged 7-12) and youth (aged 13-17) who have a family member who is experiencing mental health challenges. Small group sizes allow participants to explore and share experiences in a peer-supported environment. Topics include an introduction to mental illness, how the brain works, types of illnesses and causes, coping strategies, keeping safe, working through fears, and planning for the future. Individual support can be provided to children and youth throughout the Greater Toronto Area on short-term, intermittent and/or an on-going basis depending on individual needs.

Supporting Seniors: Caregiver Care: Caregiver Care is a free 10-week support group that can benefit anyone who needs help understanding and coping with the stress of caring for someone who is aging. This program helps caregivers get a handle on their anger, stop feeling guilty, deal with depression and grief, and manage dementia-related challenging behaviours.
